Intervista ai Persecutory (Black Metal, Turchia)

Pam! Spumante a fiumi. Perché mai? direte voi. Inauguro lo spazio delle interviste, dirò (e dico, in effetti) io. I primi che hanno risposto ai miei solleciti e alle mie domandine piccine picciotte sono i Persecutory, gran bel gruppetto che ha dato alle stampe il suo primo disco lungo, un portentoso vortice satanico che è difficile non apprezzare. Evviva la tradizione, evviva gli anni più recenti del black metal. Risponde il cantante Tyrannic Profanator. [English below]

Il vostro album si chiama Towards The Ultimate Extinction. Stiamo andando verso la fine della stirpe umana? Ci sarà più spazio sulla Terra! Il progresso dell’umanità si sta trascinando in un ciclo infinito, siamo intrappolati in uno strato dominato da un’energia ignota che non conosciamo veramente. L’unica cosa che ci attrae è l’ignoranza e infatti non conosciamo nulla di vero. È una spirale di caos che non possiamo percepire. Siamo condannati, e nella nostra dimensione questa condanna non avrà fine se non si realizzerà la distruzione dello spazio e del tempo. Siamo i batteri degli altri, e gli altri cosa sono? Ciò che dobbiamo percepire è il potere malvagio che è fuggito dal vuoto, e cosa ci comanderà quando le porte della morte si apriranno all’estremo? Possiamo renderci conto che non siamo mai nati quando porteremo la verità nel nostro subcoscio, ciò che non conosciamo e va incatenato. La crescita della popolazione incrementa solo la malattia.

Quali sono le differenze principali tra il nuovo album e l’EP precedente, Perversion Feeds Our Force? State scrivendo nuovi pezzi nel frattempo? Diciamo solo che il primitivo black/thrash, basato solo sull’impatto, in un certo senso è diventato più ritualistico, un black metal sepolto dall’oscurità e dominato dal caos, che diffonde puro odio. Lentamente abbiamo iniziato a comporre un EP che potrete ascoltare nel 2018.

La copertina riflette a pieno la maestosa malvagità dell’album! Avete messo lo zampino nella creazione o avete lasciato campo libero all’artista? Di solito descriviamo come vogliamo i nostri artwork, ma questa volta Shadrin ha creato un concept magnifico sull’infinito potere demoniaco e sulla sua infinita energia che ci eravamo creati nella nostra mente. Ci ha fatto veramente poche domande ed ha realizzato l’opera, abbiamo detto “Sì, perfetto!”. È come se lui avesse letto nei nostri pensieri.

Io penso che una delle parti migliori del disco sia la prestazione vocale non comune in ambito black. Per voi quali sono i punti di forza e quali invece quelli in cui potreste migliorare ancora? Forse l’aspetto migliore riguarda la valorizzazione delle variazioni che volevamo inserire all’interno dell’album, e le persone che l’hanno ascoltato non l’hanno criticato. Non si è mai soddisfatti al 100%, ma questa piccola percentuale di insoddisfazione ci mostra quale sarà il prossimo obiettivo da raggiungere.

Che tipo di black metal preferisci musicalmente e concettualmente? In fin dei conti siamo più vicini al black metal europeo. Le band della prima metà degli anni Novanta sono state influenti, ma per esempio il movimento e i gruppi che sono stati attivi tra il 2003 e il 2010 sono stati anche molto importanti per i Persecutory. Sicuramente non il BM ortodosso o qualche stronzata tipo il depressive. Oggi è più facile dire ciò che non sei. Si tratta di un modo di suonare leggendario che va dai Bathory ai Mayhem, dai Katharsis agli Urgehal.

Come siete entrati in contatto con Godz Ov War? Come lavorano in questa label polacca? Il disco era ancora fresco e non avevamo ancora iniziato a parlare con le etichette, solo qualche promo fisico o digitale. Più tardi ci siamo accordati con Godz Ov War e in tutta onestà devo dire che fanno bene il loro lavoro. Sarebbe giusto dire che stanno facendo più di quanto è nelle loro possibilità. Non voglio fare l’adulatore, è la realtà.

I Persecutory saranno anche al primo album, ma i loro membri fanno anche parte di alcuni gruppi turchi niente male come Sarinvomit, Nihil Khaos, Horrocious e altri ancora. Com’è la scena turca? Ci sono alcune buone black metal band, ma creare nuove canzoni e registrarle è molto difficile a causa della penuria di membri nelle band. Ognuno suona in almeno tre gruppi per volta. Il problema è tutto lì, non riguarda la strumentazione o i mezzi di registrazione in studio, come si potrebbe pensare. La situazione politica del Paese, come sapete bene, e la prospettiva dei merdosi pub metal (che in realtà diffondono pop rock) contro i metallari impediscono a volte l’attività della scena.

Towards The Ultimate Extinction: are we going to the end of human race? There will be more space on Earth! T.Profanator: The progression of the human race is being dragged through an infinite loop, and we are imprisoned in a whole layers dominated by unknow energy we do not actually know. Ignorance is the only thing that captures us, and in fact we do not know anything that is true. A spiral of chaos can not be perceived, we are condemned, and in our dimension this condemnation will not come to an end unless the destruction of time and space of this salvation is realized. We are the bacterias of others, and who are the others? What are we to perceive altogether, is the evil power in fact escaped from the void, and what will be the ruling of us when the gates of death are opened at its final point? We can come to realize that we are not born when you bring the truth back from the subconscious, it is not known and it goes chained. The growing population only spreads more disease.

What are the main differences between your full length and Perversion feeds our force EP? Are you writing new songs in these months? T.Profanator: Let’s just say that primitive black/thrash-driven only focused on assault, later going in the way of more ritualistic, buried into darkness and chaos-dominated black-metal spreading pure hatred. Started slowly and we have a plan to continue with an EP you can hear after the debut full-length in early 2018.

The cover art reflects the evil majesty of the album, it’s perfect! Are you involved in some aspects of creation or the artist did it all alone? T.Profanator: We normally go with the description in our artwork stuff, but this time Shadrin created a wonderful concept of the infinite demonic power that has infinite energy that we have built in our minds after he had asked us a few questions, without a lot of questions, and when we looked at the cover we said “yes!, done!”, as if he had entered into our mind and read it.

I think that one of your best thing are the vocals, not in the vein of classic black metal scream. And in your opinion what’s the best of the album? And what are the parts in which you can improve and do better? T.Profanator: Perhaps the most desirable aspect of the album is that it has been able to inject the desired variation into the album very well and many people have not put a solid line on it. You can never be 100% satisfied with an album, but that little unsatisfactory part is the goal for future recording. This goes on like this.

What kind of black metal bands do you prefer in music and lyrical aspects? T.Profanator: Closer to European black metal bands eventually. The first half of the 90s is also influential, but another pure european black metal movement; for example rising between 2003 – 2010 also has influence on Persecutory. This is certainly not orthodox, or not some bullshit stuff like depressive etc. It’s easier to say what you are not. it’s a legendary way going from Bathory and Mayhem to Katharsis and Urgehal.

How did you get in touch with Godz ov War and how they are working for you? T.Profanator: The record was still fresh and we have not started talking to labels, we have sent some online promos, or some physical promos. Later we have an agreement with these negotiations Godz Ov War and honestly I can say that they do their job very well. It would be more accurate to say that they are doing more than they can. I do not mean to praise, I say the right one.

Persecutory are at the first full length but you guys are also in Sarinvomit, Nihilkaos, Horrocious and so on, a great buch of turkish metal bands. What are your thoughts about national scene? T.Profanator: There are a few good black metal bands but creating new tracks and recording this new stuff is not going very fast due to band member insufficiency. One person is playing in 3 bands at once. It’s actually all the trouble. There are absolutely no troubles related with equipment or studio inadequacies as people thought. The situation of the country as you knew and the perspective of the shit metal pubs (pop rock lovers) against metalheads sometimes prevent the activity of the scene.
